Blog Post #5

Hello! This will be the final blog post of the semester. I have learned more about the different methods that go along with a sound research study. Part of this was realizing the different aspects of both qualitative and quantitative studies. I also learned that there is a lot of work that goes into a research proposal before the actual research takes place in order to ensure preparedness is met. Additionally, I learned about the necessity of IRB approval, which is something I did not know much about prior to this class. These processes have taught me that creating a research proposal is fun, even though it is very time-consuming. I also learned that my skills as a technical writer can be applied to other aspects, as seen through the combination of visual rhetoric and journalism in my proposal.

So far, my research proposal is coming along smoothly. I have finished my revisions based on the feedback provided in the literature review. I have almost finished the section on the research design and methods, but I am waiting until my meeting with the professor before I finish it. I also plan on visiting the writing center to have someone read through my research proposal to fix any grammatical mistakes. My revisions for the research proposal are starting to help me shape my final draft.

Research Gap: There would be a theoretical gap in my research because new insights could be generated if the effect of fallacies in journalism was covered. Fallacies can impact the way journalists write their articles in order to persuade the public with their viewpoints. When fallacies are used in this way, it also creates distrust between the public and the news organization, which is why this could be beneficial to cover. This could further be researched to see how it is breaking the trust, how often it is used, and the most frequently used fallacies. However, this was not an option to research within my timeline.

Hey y'all! This is my second blog post, in which I chose tentative 10 sources for my topic. Here are my sources, there are 8 from PTW journals and 2 from Google Scholar.                                                                                                 Google Scholar: Journals:

Hello! Welcome to my very first blog post for English 3450.  My potential research topic is going to be based on the idea of the importance of storytelling. I want to mainly focus on the importance of telling the truth, which means I will probably take the journalism side of things. Journalism is such an important aspect of keeping everyone in check and informed; however, many different influences are keeping people from consuming factually correct news or just news in general. This could be due to social media, algorithms, or AI. I also want to bring in law cases of when news organizations were caught publishing false information and the effect that had on the community. I don't want to just highlight the negative parts of journalism but also the good that it can do when done correctly. To do this, I think it would be beneficial to find old news articles that tell an important story or event that needed to be told. Additionally, if I wanted to continue along the lines of the...
